“I was pulled out of car in uncivilised manner”, says Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani

The newly elected independent MLA from Vadgam, Gujrat and Dalit leader Jignish Mevani, has said that he was pulled out of his car in ‘a very civilised manner’ by the state police. Police also later took him under their custody.

Jignesh Mevani was pulled out of the car in a very civilised manner , his car keys were broken and detained by the police while on the way to a peaceful protest at Ambedkar statue in Sarangpur, Ahmedabad. The protest was organised to meet the demands of deceased Bhanuji family.” tweeted The official Twitter handle of Mevani.


In the viral video Jignesh seen engaged in a heated conversation with police personnel, who are see trying to stop his car moving ahead.  Agitated mevani is seen shouting at his driver to keep driving while also saying to policemen to remember that he is an elected representative of peoples.

Mevani was on his way to Ahmedabad to protest against the death of Dalit activist Bhanu Vankar, when he was detained by the police. Bhanu  Vankar had attempted self-immolation in Gujarat on 15 February.
