30 Congress MLAs suspended in Chhattisgarh because of Nirav Modi fallout

Chhattisgarh Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal today suspended 30 Congress MLAs from the Assembly.
Congress MLAs were protesting against the invitation extention of mining giant Rio Tinto to invest in the state by Chief Minister Raman Singh. They accused the mining multinational of having ties with tainted businessman Nirav Modi.
Nirav Modi who is already at the centre of the Rs 11,400-crore scam involving loans extended by Punjab National Bank.
Chhattisgarh  Chief Minister Raman Singh led a delegation to Australia in a bid to woo foreign investors, In January this year. 
A state government spokesperson had said: "Chief minister Raman Singh met chief adviser (media relations) of Rio Tinto Jonathan Rose, who said the company would be exploring the options of exploring the options of partnering with Indian companies for developing mines in Chhattisgarh."

The state is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has 49 MLAs while Congress has 39 MLAs in a house of 90.
